Getting into the machine
Set these values in your HT or mobile rig. Most radios only need the output frequency, a positive offset and the tone.
Manual entry
- Set the receive frequency to 443.650 MHz (70 cm band).
- Set the repeater shift to plus (+) with a 5.000 MHz offset.
- Enable a CTCSS / PL encode tone of 141.3 Hz.
- Leave tone decode (squelch tone) off unless you want a quieter receive.
- Save the channel with a name like "K5MI" or "MARCO".
On-air etiquette
- Listen before you transmit — the repeater may already be in use.
- Identify with your callsign when you join and at least every ten minutes.
- Pause a second after keying up so the repeater and any linked systems catch up.
- Leave a gap between transmissions so emergency or priority traffic can break in.
- Visitors are welcome — say your call and where you're operating from.
